Congratulations on Purchasing your new theme!
Before you get started with the install, here are a few things to note.
You will need photoshop to edit the blog header. You will also need to download and install the fonts provided in the theme installation folder. If you do not have photoshop, click here to contact us and request your blog header.
IMPORTANT: If the genesis framework or any of your plugins need updated, be sure to update them once they are installed.
Now, On to the fun stuff! Click on each step below to install your new wordpress theme.
Log into your wordpress dashboard, click on appearance > Themes. At the top of the page, click on “Add New” Then click on “Upload Theme” In the box that opens up, click on “Choose File” and upload the genesis.zip file that is inside your theme folder. Activate it and if it asks you to update it, then go ahead and do so. Next, upload your theme, Your theme is also inside the folder and is named something similar to themename-tinselpop.zip. Upload that and activate it.Install the theme and Genesis Framework
Click on Appearance > Customize On the page that opens up, click “Header Image” on the left side of the screen. Then click on “Add New Image” In the box that opens up click on “Upload Files” Upload the blog header you edited in photoshop or if you didn’t have photoshop, upload the header I sent over. On the next page press the “Skip Cropping” button, then hit “Save and Publish”.Install Your Header
Within your theme folder, you will see another folder called “Plugins”, upload each and every plugin located in that folder, activate them and update them. If you are unsure how to add plugins, read the following tutorial –Upload Plugins
In your wordpress dashboard, go to tools > widget Importer & Exporter (If you are not seeing this option it means you haven’t uploaded the plugin. The plugin is in your plugins folder and needs to be uploaded and activated.) Click on “Choose File” and navigate to the folder named DEMO FILES inside your theme folder. You will see a file called WIDGETS-SETTINGS, upload that then click on “Import Widgets”, some widgets may already exist but this will install the widgets and set them up like the demo.Import Widget Settings
In your wordpress dashboard, go to Genesis > Import / Export. On the page that opens up, click on “Choose file” and navigate to your theme folder, inside it, you will see a folder called DEMO FILES, open up that folder and double click on the file named GENESIS-DEMO-CONTENT then hit “Upload file and import”.Import Genesis Settings
If you already have content on your blog, you can skip this part if you wish although I do recommend installing it. If your blog is brand new, this will install all the photos, pages and blog posts that you saw in the demo so you can quickly set up the theme then delete and edit any parts once you start blogging. First, go to your wordpress dashboard and navigate to tools > import. Scroll down on the page that opens up until you see “WordPress” hit Install importer or Run Importer, if you have to install it, do that, then go back and hit run importer. On the page that opens up, click on “Choose file” and navigate to your theme folder, inside it, you will see a folder called DEMO FILES, open up that folder and double click on the file named THEME-DEMO-CONTENT then hit the “Upload file and import button”. On the next page, assign the posts to your own username, make sure to check that option and make sure “download and import file attachments is checked then click on “Submit”. The next step can take a few minutes, the page will look like it’s loading, once it’s done you will see a list of everything that is installed (sometimes it just shows a blank page). If something says it failed, don’t worry about that, your site may already have it.Import Demo Content
First of all, you will need to have your pages and categories created, If you installed the demo content, these will already created, if you don’t already have these created, click the links below for a tutorial on adding pages and categories. Now that your pages and categories have been created you can go ahead and create your navigation menu, the primary menu is where your social media icons will show up along with certain pages and the secondary menu allows you to add more pages and categories. All of our themes allow for two navigation menus, the primary navigation menu is above the header. The secondary navigation menu is below the header, you can use one or both. You can create more than one menu and assign each menu differently. To access your navigation menu settings go to appearance > Menus. If you are unsure how to create and arrange your navigation menu click here for a tutorial.Set up your navigation menu
Your social media icons are located in appearance > widgets > Nav Social Menu, navigate to that area, click on it and expand the widget named “Simple Social Icons”. (If you are using a theme that has the icons in the sidebar instead, go to appearance > Widgets > Primary Sidebar area). Once you the have nav social menu widget area open, scroll down a bit and add the links to your social media sites into the spaces provided, replace the links that are already there and delete any links you do not plan on using. (Example shown below). Make sure to add https:// before any social media URL and make sure to add mailto: before your email address with no space in between. Once you have everything added and set up, hit “SAVE” at the bottom of the widget. You will need to activate the Primary Navigation Menu for these to show up. Note: If your theme has icons on the sidebar instead or you would like them there, drag and drop the Nav Social Menu widget into the Primary Sidebar Widget Area.Social Media Icons
Navigate to appearance > widgets > primary sidebar area and open up the widget named “Image Widget”. Click on “Select an image”, then upload and replace the image with your own. I recommend a size of 300 x 300px for image widgets. Your welcome image will show up in whatever shape and size you upload it. Add a title if you wish and replace the caption with your own, then hit “Save” when you are done. Click on “Instagram Feed” to the bottom left of your wordpress admin panel. On the page that opens up, click the big blue button that says “Connect an instagram account”, authorize it then it will take you back to wordpress. Once that’s done scroll down and hit “save changes”. Next click on “Customize” at the top of the instagram feed page. In the customize section make sure the first area of settings are as shown below. Once you do that, scroll down a little more and uncheck the following boxes “Show the Header”, “Show the Load More Button” and “Show the Follow Button”. Hit save. Your Instagram feed will now show up on your blog. You can do this on your blog posts, or on an individual page, you can create as many galleries as you like. Create your gallery page or open up your blog post, click on “add media”, then click on “create gallery”, select the photos you want displayed in your gallery, the click the “create a new gallery” button in the bottom right hand corner. On the next page under gallery settings, select “Link to” then change that from gallery page to media. Change the size to large, then change the type to “Tiled Mosaic” or you can choose any of the other options depending on how you want your gallery to display. Hit “Insert Gallery” in the bottom right hand corner. Below is a video showing how to add a simple tiled gallery to a wordpress page or post. You will need to have the plugin “Tiled Galleries Carousel Without Jetpack” installed. If you would like to display a place for people to find out how to advertise on your blog, go to appearance > widgets and drag the widget named “Image Widget” into your Primary Sidebar widget area under or above any widgets where you want it to show. Upload the AD Space image which is in your theme folder that you unzipped, and enter the URL to your add information page or wherever you sell ads into the link: section of the widget and hit save. You can also add a title such as Advertise in the Title: section. This is completely optional but if you would like to change your theme colors, go to your wordpress admin area, click on appearance > customize > colors and from there you will see a list of areas with dropdowns, you can change the colors of your theme using this customizer (Some elements such as background images and the blog header cannot be customized using this.) A lot of the genesis framework uses CSS and the theme editor to change colors, we tried to make this as easy as possible but if some elements can’t be changed, we recommend inspecting the element in your browser and editing it via appearance > theme editor. To change the overall layout of your theme to full width or have the sidebar on the left, go to appearance > customize > site layout, then you will see a dropdown menu with 3 different options. If you only want to change the layout for a single page or a single post, go to your pages or posts area, click on the page or post you want to edit. Scroll down until you see “layout settings” and click on the layout diagram you want to use, then save your page. (Don’t worry about the sections under it). To change the way a certain category archive looks, go to Posts > Categories then click on the category you wish to edit then scroll down to the bottom until you see the layout section again. NOTE: If you previously had widgets installed, feel free to remove the old ones you do not wish to use anymore via appearance > widgets > primary sidebar menu or throughout any other widget areas within the theme.
